Technical Tour
The Port of Cork in conjunction with ITS Ireland are hosting a technical tour of the Port of Cork in tandem with the ITS Ireland Networking event in Cork City on the same date. The tour will outline the Port of Cork’s historic relocation, moving its core commercial operations from the upper harbour at the Cork City and Tivoli Docks downstream to modern, consolidated deep-water facilities in the lower harbour. Centred around the newly operational Cork Container Terminal (CCT) in Ringaskiddy, this once-in-a-generation relocation allows the port to accommodate larger global freight vessels while freeing up prime city-centre docks for urban regeneration. To seamlessly manage the resulting surge in heavy goods vehicle (HGV) traffic and protect surrounding communities, a comprehensive traffic management framework has been deployed. The cornerstone of this strategy is the Ringaskiddy Freight Mobility Plan, which introduces a mandatory vehicle booking system for all hauliers, extends operating hours to spread arrivals into off-peak periods, and utilizes remote-access traffic monitoring. Furthermore, construction is underway on the M28 Motorway Project, a dedicated upgrade replacing the old N28 that will bypass local bottlenecks to safely channel freight, ultimately slashing vehicle volumes through the villages of Shanbally and Ringaskiddy by over 60%.
Places on the tour may be limited so please register your attendance by sending an email to the following address: info@itsireland .ie
Confirmation of your attendance will be forwarded in due course prior to event.

Basic Introduction to Traffic Signals for SCATS based regions
This course is designed to provide anyone whose work involves traffic modelling or traffic signal design with a basic understanding of the most important traffic signal concepts when dealing with SCATS based controllers.
This course is suitable for anyone involved in traffic modelling or design and who are new to traffic signals or would like to refresh their understanding of important traffic signal concepts. It is suitable for complete beginners and no prior knowledge of traffic modelling or design of traffic signals is required. The course covers the determination of safety critical timings such as intergreens and clearance times and looks at the both the Austrian method and the method typically applied in countries like Ireland (which are different).
