ITS Ireland is delighted to host a technical webinar on the following topics.
- Applying Analytics to Public Transport in Ireland
Speaker: Brian McCormick
Brian is Head of BI and Data Analytics at the NTA since April. Previously managed the Business Analytics Unit at Department of Social Protection. Prior to that, I worked as an economist for over 15 years.
The presentation will detail how data analytics has been used to predict bus capacity as well as more generally considering how analytics will drive Ireland’s transport strategy in the future.
- Public Transport Information, Commonly used data specifications in an Irish context
Speaker: Cian O’Connor
Cian’s role as Systems Engineering Manager in the NTA’s Technology Services Group involves supporting many of the technology based services we provide to customers and to transport operators. These services are provided using a variety of systems including journey planning, real-time, contract compliance, and ticketing.
The last decade has seen a shift in how public transport users access information about upcoming journeys. Traditional paper based timetables have been replaced by mobile apps which can provide the best route from A to B, estimates of when a particular service will arrive, and plot the current position on a map. To facilitate this type of functionality it is necessary for public transport data to be shared between many IT systems across multiple organisations. A large number of data specifications have been developed relating to, amongst other things public transport networks, schedules, and real-time data. I will look at the commonly used specifications in an Irish context and how they relate to each to provide the public transport information which the public increasingly expect.
- Addressing the renewal, expansion and decarbonisation of the public service obligation (PSO) bus and coach fleet
Speaker: Ian Gourley
Ian is the Transport Fleet Manager at the National Transport Authority (NTA), having joined the NTA just over three years ago, and is responsible for the procurement of new buses and coaches used on state-funded Transport for Ireland services, the management of the NTA’s existing bus and coach fleet, and the development of the specification for the new DART fleet in collaboration with Iarnród Éireann.
The NTA, in close collaboration with the Department of Transport, Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann, Go-Ahead Ireland and other key stakeholders, is in the midst of transitioning the publicly-funded (i.e. public service obligation or PSO) urban bus fleet to operation by low- and zero-emission vehicles. Ian’s presentation will outline the NTA’s role in specifying, procuring and funding new buses and coaches, identify the key accomplishments to-date, provide an overview of new vehicles in the course of being introduced into service, and describe how decarbonisation of the fleet is planned to be effected in the future.
This virtual event is open to all ITS Ireland members using the Microsoft Teams platform, Use this link to join us on Tuesday 29th June, 1pm to 2pm
