ITS Ireland’s seminar on Public Procurement was held in the National College of Ireland and was attended by a cross section of the industry, from Public Bodies to Integrators’ and Consultants. Tony Redmond, RPA and NRA Procurement Manager, delivered and excellent presentation covering the various aspects of public procurement. He illustrated a very much a common sense approach on “How SMEs can win Government Contracts”. In doing so he gave insight from both the buyer and the bidders point of view.
Tony detailed the importance of compliance with regulations such as Circular 1014 and Health & Safety. In addition he explained how investing in the preparation of quality templates for inclusion in your submission can speed up the preparation process and improve the quality of your submission.
In explaining the advantages of a well prepared submission and how it is perceived by the recipient, Tony gave insight into the approach taken by the assessor and what they looking for. He explained the award criteria and the importance of meeting the requirements set out, and in doing so touched on some of the common mistakes seen in tenders.
Tony also offered some tips from a buyer perspective on how to run a successful procurement process. He explained the rights of the bidder and outlined the approach on informing both the successful and unsuccessful bidder.All in all it was a very informative and well received presentation with plenty of questions.
