IBTTA Transportation Summit of South Africa

John Davis recently represented ITS Ireland at two conferences in Cape Town (South Africa) namely;

The Summit on Intelligent Transport Systems as a Driver for Economic Growth and Development which was jointly hosted by ITS South Africa and the International Roads Federation ITS Policy Committee on 8th March at the Transport Management Centre in Cape Town; and

IBTTA Transportation Summit of South Africa jointly hosted by the South African Association of Road Concessionaires and the International Bridge Tunnel and Turnpike Association from March 11th to 13th at the Westin Hotel, Cape Town.

John gave a presentation at each of these events. The presentation at the ITS Summit was titled ‘Cooperation between Industry and Government – Experiences in Ireland’ whilst the presentation at the IBTTA Summit was titled ‘Overview of Irish Tolling Scene’. Both of these presentations can be downloaded in our members area.

The primary purpose of this trip was to promote the Dublin 2013 ITS European Congress and the presentation platform was used to promote the event and invite interested South African parties to attend and/or participate. In between the two conferences, John met with William Crosse who is chair of the South African / Irish Business Association to discuss ways of using the 2013 event to promote trade between the two countries. This meeting was initiated with the assistance of Enterprise Ireland and further discussions will take place in the coming months.
