E Safety Observers Meeting

On the 5th of May the 2nd eSafety Observers meeting was held in Brussels with ITS Ireland represented by Mr. Paul Bennett. An overview of eSafety activities in Ireland was given to the delegates, there was a similar presentation from ITS Slovenia.  The meeting was attended by representatives of most member states and included a review of the 22 recommendations made by the eSafety Group. The task of the observers will be to monitor progress for deployment and debate about these recommendations within each member state and report their findings on a regular basis. The recommendations covers a number of different areas of road safety where the application of technology can contribute to improvement.  These areas include topics concerning-

  • ITS Deployment;
  • Accident causation and reporting;
  • In Vehicle Safety Systems
  • ICT Mobility;
  • Real Time Traffic and Travel Information;
  • Safe Systems for vulnerable road users and
  • Digital Road Mapping

To report on these recommendations the observer will be required to interface with a number of transport agencies and other stakeholders in eSafety e.g. the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.
