Taiwan developing intelligent transportation system

Taiwan plans to achieve major progress in building an intelligent transportation system by 2018 through the use of the Internet of Vehicles technology, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.

At a Cabinet meeting Thursday, a ministry official said a four-year project has been launched in Keelung to create a platform for integrated management and operation of a smart transportation system through the use of information technology and data analytics.

The project will be completed in 2018 and is aimed mainly at improving road safety by collecting and analyzing data from vehicles on the road, said Chen Chi-hwa (陳其華), head of the Transportation Information Systems Division of the ministry’s Institute of Transportation.
